Hey friends! I am excited to share with you all of the new and exciting things coming up this summer. As always, we will be having our first camp of the year at Longview Ranch, May 27th - 30th. This year will be run like the first year with all grades attending for the same amount of time. Last year it was too crazy for parents with kiddos in multiple grades. Some found themselves coming three times in one week for pick-up. This is unreasonable for anyone, but especially for our families traveling several hours to get here. To alleviate that hassle we went back to a full schedule for everyone. Registration is now open for both May and October on the website. It would be wise to register soon, we have a 150 camper limit and 32 registered in the first 48 hours! We have shortened our camp week by one day this year due to funding, but our goal is to be back up to the full Tuesday - Saturday by next summer.
Talking about funding, this has been a big area of trust in the Lord lately. We have so many generous churches, groups and individuals who have helped to support us. A Bible Study group at First Baptist Church of Greeneville has committed to $200 monthly support and Promise Seekers from Boones Creek Christian Church has committed to $400 every quarter. Solomon Lutheran Church has also donated $550 this year. We have five individuals who have committed between $10 - $50 a month. Last year several groups gave us one-time donations including Boones Creek Christian Church who sent us $10,000. We are so grateful for all of the support we received and continue to receive. With that said, our needs are great. To run one camp, it costs between $26,000 - $45,000 a camp, dependent upon how many registers and where we hold camp. We are fortunate to have been paired with Angel Tree, DCS and Psalm68Five who help us to cover some of the scholarships. Unfortunately, the majority of the financial burden falls on us. It would be such a blessing if you would prayerfully consider becoming a monthly supporter, even if it is just $10 a month. As we bring what resources we have together we can do big things! It reminds me of the children's book about rock soup. (If you haven't read it, I highly recommend that story for children and adults alike!) We might start soup with just a rock, but as each person brings an ingredient that they have, the pot becomes full of good things to eat.
Because we are not fully funded, we are not able to pay staff. Everyone volunteers their time and also must work other jobs. We would LOVE to be able to have a fully paid team. That brings me to our current needs. Right now, we are gearing up for our May camp. We currently need $3,200 to renew our liability insurance. This is a must if we want to continue to run camp. Once we secure the insurance, we need to pay $1,000 deposit to secure our camp dates. As of today, those needs are still unmet.
It costs $550 per camper to attend camp. This cost covers their whole week including food, lodging, activities, clothes and school supplies. We love those who support a camper. This year we are also looking for businesses or individuals who would sponsor a cabin. A whole cabin is $4500, a half cabin is $2500. Whole cabins will be named by the donor in honor of their business, a loved one, a favorite sports team or anything their heart desires! All cabin donors will be receiving a gift from Healing Wings Ministry and will be recognized as our supporters. (Note, that a cabin is not a physical building but rather a group of campers. They will wear lanyards with their name and their cabin name).
We will be holding a Bike Run on May 17th starting at Hardin Park in Greeneville. More information and registration can be found on our website. We would love to have you join us at the park, even if you do not attend the ride.
